The Most Holy Trinity of Love

Today’s beautiful Feast of The Most Holy Trinity features Christ’s own words captured in the gospel of John 3:16, one of the most popularly-quoted verses in the bible: God so loved the world that he gave His only Son, so that everyone who believes in Him might not perish but might have eternal life…” Consider the commentary of Fr. Cornelius a Lapide, S.J.: “Note that every word of Christ in this verse has a great and special emphasis, in order to magnify to the utmost the love of God!”

The love of God…so magnanimous a truth! Love that we do not merit nor can earn, but freely and abundantly given; given to the point of offering up His only Son in love to save us, and to send forth the Holy Spirit to be our companion, advocate and guide while we pilgrim life here on earth to our eternal home in heaven…

It is true, our whole point of our Christian faith is our shared life and union with the Blessed Trinity as sons and daughters of Our Lord…why does this truth not permeate our varied world of hearts with greater awe, wonder and dignity for all – the same merciful, generous love that God loves each of us?
